We Are Wolves are a Canadian indie rock band, based in Montreal, consisting of vocalist and bassist Alexander Ortiz, keyboardist/backing vocalist Vincent Levesque and drummer/vocalist Antonin Marquis. The band released its debut album, Non-stop je te plie en deux with Fat Possum Records, in 2005. They have toured extensively across Canada, the United States and Europe to support the album, and have been playlisted on CBC Radio 3. They also performed live on the first episode of that network's live concert series CBC Radio 3 Sessions. Their second album Total Magique was release September 4th 2007, with a new label Dare To Care reconds.
Around 2000, Alexander Ortiz and Vincent Levesque, both from the visual art world along with fellow Antonin Marquis formed a band with synths, bass, vocals and drums. In their own words the band likes to qualify their sound as “a post-punk landscape with analogue trees. Like rock after the postmodern explosion”. Nameless until 2002, it’s when Alexander showed up at the jam space with an home made shirt with a skull spiting a synth with the inscription « We Are Wolves » on it that they decided to name the band. The Wolves were born.
Their primitive sound matches perfectly with the band’s name. It’s animal. Rock and electro music fans from The Cramps to Add N to X, it’s at the junction of those two movements that We Are Wolves made their den. We Are Wolves is a band inspired by the art world like Devo and Talking Heads were before them. One of their first show was held at the art pavilion of Concordia University. Since then, Montrealers have seen them live in traditional venues, loft parties and art galleries such as Belgo, Saidye Bronfman Center and Fonderie Darling. The band kept on gaining popularity and their fans were claiming an album. So, in 2005 they pleased them with the album "Non Stop Je te Plie en Deux" on the American label Fat Possum.
The press soon followed with articles in Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, Spin and shows in famous international festivals like Le Rock dans tous ses états, Les Eurokéennes, Dour Festival, SXSW, CMJ, Virgin Festival and Osheaga. We Are Wolves had their first north American tour in Spring 2005 opening for And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead and The (International) Noise Conspiracy. A second one came in 2006 supporting the Gossip plus some solo dates across Canada and the States. They also had a 5 weeks tour in Europe with Montreal act Duchess Says in Summer 2006.
End of May 2007 came the single “Fight and Kiss” on Dare to Care Records. This EP also features “Coconut 155” and marks the second chapter in the band’s career. From now on, We Are Wolves are on a Montreal label and presented their second full-length album “Total Magique” on September 4th and in the U.S on October 2nd. After sold out gigs in Quebec, receiving the M-Galaxie Prize at M for Montreal and participating at 4 shows for CMJ, the band gets ready to tour Canada, the U.S and Europe in 2007-2008.

The Raveonettes are a Danish Rock & Roll duo consisting of Sune Rose Wagner (on guitar, instruments, vocals) and Sharin Foo (on bass and vocals). Their music is characterized by close two-part vocal harmonies inspired by The Everly Brothers[citation needed], coupled with hard-edged electric guitar overlaid with liberal doses of noise. Their songs juxtapose the structural and chordal simplicity of 50s and 60s rock with intense electric instrumentation, driving beats and often dark lyrical content, similar to another of the band's influences, The Velvet Underground.

[edit] Biography
The duo met in Copenhagen and, after forming the band, began recording Whip It On at Once Was & Sauna Recording Studio, a former Sony Studios facility. They booked the studio for three weeks during non-session down time late in 2001 and handled all production chores by themselves. Adding guitarist Manoj Ramdas and jazz drummer Jakob Hoyer, the Raveonettes booked one of their first gigs at the SPOT festival in Aarhus, the second largest city in Denmark.
Officially the band was discovered by Rolling Stone editor David Fricke at the SPOT festival and his rave review of them immediately resulted in a number of offers from the major labels. Unofficially the band discovered that David Fricke would be present at the SPOT festival, and they rushed a band together and headed for the festival.
Whip It On (in which every song was under three minutes and in the key of B-flat minor) was named "Best Rock Album of the Year" at the Danish Music Awards (Denmark's Grammy equivalent) on March 1, 2003 while the Raveonettes were picked by Rolling Stone and Q Magazine as being among the harbingers of the "Next Wave" of contemporary music.
In 2006 Blender named Sharin Foo one of rock's hottest women, alongside Courtney Love, Joan Jett, and Liz Phair. [1]
[edit] Chain Gang of Love
The band's first full-length album, Chain Gang of Love (in which all but two songs were under three minutes and in the key of B flat major), was produced by the legendary Richard Gottehrer — the author of rock classics like "My Boyfriend's Back" and "I Want Candy" as well as the producer for hit albums by Blondie, the Go-Go's, Richard Hell & the Voidoids, and many more — and the Raveonettes' own Sune Rose Wagner. The album was recorded in Denmark and New York on October 9-17, November 6-12, and December 4-10, 2002 and mixed in London in early 2003. The thirteen songs on Chain Gang of Love are written by Sune Rose Wagner with the exception of "That Great Love Sound", which Sune co-wrote with Gottehrer. Portions of this song were featured in a US ad for K-Mart. The album has often been compared to Psychocandy, the debut album by The Jesus and Mary Chain[citation needed].

The Raveonettes on love, death, desire and war
The band's latest album Pretty in Black broadened their musical palette, featuring guest vocals from Ronnie Spector of The Ronettes as well as guest instrumental spots from Maureen Tucker (of The Velvet Underground) and Martin Rev. This was their first album in which Sharin Foo did not play bass, instead The Raveonettes added bass player Anders Christensen who toured with seminal jazz drummer Paul Motion's band, amongst others, who recorded on the album and now tours with the band. At the end of the 2005 tour, guitar player Manoj Ramdas left the band to concentrate on his new band SPEKTR.
The video for the single "Love in a Trashcan" features pink bars and blocks with words like "Vamp" and "Teaser" scrawling by the band members, and is reminiscent of an early-1960s cosmetic ad.
[edit] Instrumentation
The Raveonettes are faithful Fender players. Sune plays Jazzmasters, while Sharin has played a Fender Mustang Bass, Jazzmaster. Their supporting guitarist plays a Jaguar, Jazzmaster and a Telecaster. Unfortunately, in the fall of 2005, the tour van containing all of the band's equipment was stolen during their tour of the US including Sune's prized 1960 Jazzmaster and Sharin's treasured Gretsch 6120. On their two recent electric duo shows Sharin and Sune were each using Jazzmasters and Sune a Fender Twin Reverb and Sharin a Fender Super Reverb for amplification.

[edit] History
[edit] 1988-2005
The members first met at Primary school, in the early nineties, and formed a band at the age of 13. This was without ex-member Alex Pennie, who was asked to join 5 years later.[5][6] Originally known as White Rabbit, they renamed themselves The Automatic because they believe that music is the antidote to "the automatic life".[7] They signed with B-Unique Records[8](home of Kaiser Chiefs) in their gap.
[edit] Not Accepted Anywhere (2006-2007)
Main articles: Not Accepted Anywhere and The Automatic singles
CEJ. In November 2005, the band released their first single, "Recover", prior to the release of their debut album Not Accepted Anywhere, this single however was not chart eligible since only 1,500 copies were released on vinyl and only 3,500 on CD. Also in 2005, The Automatic won The Pop Factory award for "Best New Band".
On March 27, 2006, the band's next single, "Raoul", was released, reaching #32 in the UK Singles Chart. The third single, "Monster", was released on June 5, 2006 and reached #4, but entered the UK Singles Chart at #23 the week before based on download sales alone. "Monster" has also been re-mixed into a dance track by Fatboy Slim, and some football teams use the song as an anthem.[9] Keyboardist Alex Pennie has expressed his thoughts on football fans singing their song "Monster", and does not see it as a good thing, nor does he get any thrill out of them singing it, also stating "I'm not the biggest fan of football, I class it a waste of time," in an interview with MTV.co.uk [10]
Not Accepted Anywhere, was released on 19 June, 2006, which they celebrated with a signing and performance in Oxford Street's HMV.
On July 17, 2006 shortly after the UK release of Not Accepted Anywhere, the Raoul EP was released, containing a number of early songs and b-sides to Not Accepted Anywhere. The EP also included the original versions of "Recover" and "Raoul".[11]
The Automatic have been heavily criticised for their follow-ups to their chart hit "Monster", which peaked at #4 in UK charts. The band has been accused of being a "one-hit wonder"[12] [13][14] Not Accepted Anywhere was also criticised for the tracks sounding too similar to one another. [15][16][17]
The Automatic on the Vans Warped Tour.
The fourth single was a full release of "Recover", and is actually a re-recorded version of the song which the record label felt to be a more fully-realised performance. Generally it is heavier in sound, features more synths from Pennie and a sharper guitar sound for Frost's solo.
16 August 2006 saw the band's second EP, titled Live at the 100 Club, the EP was recorded at the 100 Club, in London and made exclusive to iTunes.[18]
The fifth single, a re-release of "Raoul", was released on January 8, 2007. The single fared worse than its original release, however received higher plays on MTV, Kerrang and other music stations.[19]
On June 26, 2007 the band released their debut album, Not Accepted Anywhere in the U.S. and Canada. This comes prior to their attendance at the Vans Warped Tour, 2007. Their first U.S. single, "Monster", was released on April 24, 2007.[20]
We want to just make it sound rawer, make it sound heavier because we felt the first album got pretty poppified and it was quite rushed so we didn’t get to do a lot of the ideas we had. So hopefully we’ll get a bit more time to make it more of an album where you have to listen to the whole album. You know like with some albums, you only listen to one track but you feel like you have to listen to whole album. We want it to be like that,” says the sticksman of the direction he thinks the whole band should make out with each other. “I think it’ll be more in the potty direction, more in the vein of Foo Fightery type , kind of thing but keeping in what we do now. We don’t want to be perceived as this pop band which we do at the moment, we seem to be a bit pushed into this corner, but when you come to our gigs you sort of see that we’re a rock band.
—Ukmusic interview[21]
[edit] Alex Pennie Departure 18th September 2007
On 18th of September 2007 it was announced by The Automatic that Alex Pennie (synths player) had left the band due to finding the last year increasingly unenjoyable and growing apart from the rest of the band.
“
So you all know today we announced that keyboard player Alex Pennie has left the band.
Alex Pennie, who’s been in The Automatic since 2003, played his last gigs with the band at the recent Get Loaded In The Park festival (25th-26th August) and has left after due to finding the last year increasingly unenjoyable and growing apart from the rest of the band
The three members of The Automatic – Rob Hawkins, James Frost and Iwan Griffiths – will soon be flying to the USA to start recording the follow up to their debut album ‘Not Accepted Anywhere' and are looking forward to announcing more news soon.[22]The Automatic

[edit] Second Album, future Album(2007-present)
In late February guitarist James Frost was interviewed and stated that a non-album single would be released around March 2007 however it was never released, nor was it ever officially said what song was going to be released however it was speculated to be Revolution.James FrostRadio interview James Frost talks about NME, America and The Second Album (5:16 Details on a new single)
So far the official details on a second album are limited; however, new songs have been showcased on the NME tour, including "Steve McQueen" and "Revolution" [23]. Also in playmusic magazine it is suggested that the sound on the second album will change. "Our record is a bit too pop for my liking," says Alex Pennie in the interview, however they have said in other interviews that there will be no drastic changes in the genre for the second album. However Alex Pennie has since left the band prior to the recording of the album. They have also stated that they will start writing this album when they go out to America, for the Vans Warped Tour 2007, and it is expected to be released early 2008.[24]
“
I'm much more excited about the second record, its shaping up to be quite dark and sinister and my vocals are getting better as well.[25]Alex Pennie

On 26th July 2007 theautomatic.co.uk was changed for the first time since the UK release of Not Accepted Anywhere, from the Not Accepted Anywhere Theme into a new lighter flash aided design, the design may or may not have relevance to the forthcoming Untitled Second Album scheduled for a late 2007/early 2008 release. A US site was also released, the style only slightly differs with The Automatic UK site featuring a new logo, the USA site uses the logo from Not Accepted Anywhere.[27]

[edit] Trivia
Their name comes from the story that Ginger Rogers had to re-do a tap dance scene so many times that the camera man asked whether she'd changed out of her white shoes into some red ones. She hadn't, it turned out she'd danced so hard they were covered in blood.
Laura-Mary was once asked to join The Go! Team.
Steven Ansell once recounted in an interview an incident where he urinated in members of Electro band Robots In Disguise's drinks backstage at a concert while they were performing (drinks that they later apparently drank), as the band had been rude to him.[citation needed]
